That's What Friends Are For

This weekend was a great reminder of how amazing it is to have friends! No matter whether we live in the same city, four hours away, or several states away, it is incredible that I can stay connected with my friends. Saturday morning I had a great text exchange with my dear friend out of state. We talked life—the hard parts! We were able to lift each other a bit and remind each other that we are worthy of seeking what we want out of life and that we should be grateful for what comes our way. Later in the day, I got a text from one of my best friends returning to a text conversation we had a week or two ago as we were making plans for purchasing tickets for a concert for this coming May. The artist is on her bucket list and she really wants to go and she wants me to go with her! I am only too happy to do so. Some of my local best friends and I had planned on having lunch on Saturday, but one ended up with COVID and another was dealing with a fridge on the fritz. Then one had to pick up kids from activities! In the midst of chaotic schedules and last minute things, three of us managed to meet up for dinner where we were able to catch up and do a little girl bonding for a little while. Prior to dinner, these two friends took food to our friend with COVID. That warmed my heart. I took her food today. Part of my text exchange with her as she sent her "thank you" led me to tell her I was glad we had a history. Apparently I have made this meal for her before and she knew it was good from past experience Unfortunately she couldn't taste it today!

What caused me to write about this? I was just overwhelmed with how blessed I am to have people I can count on—people who seek me out, people who lift my spirits, and who would take care of me, if necessary. This is not all, this coming week I am looking forward to having lunch with another friend who moved here about a year and a half ago. We share similar interests and I relish the opportunity to foster this friendship. How incredibly blessed I am with these magnificent people in my life.

Last week I wrote about finding your communities and it just so happens that your friendships are close knit communities you can rely on just like Dionne Warwick and friends sang, "That's What Friends Are For."

On a solemn note: My heart goes out to the families who today are reliving the tragedy that changed their lives 22 years ago. We will never forget those we lost and those who were heroic on that day and thereafter doing what they do best. God Bless us all.
