I Resolve...

Yes, it is Tuesday. Yes, I am a day late with my post (my self imposed deadline). I had a day yesterday. I had one of those days when you think, "I should have stayed in bed!" I know we all have those days every once in a while, but we resolve to not let it gets us down.

I was rear ended when I was at a complete stop on my way to Costco for eggs, fruit, and vitamins! I was being a safe driver waiting for cars to finish turning onto the frontage road. The big truck behind me decided I needed to go so he gave a nice push and damaged the back of my car. I pulled into the closest parking lot, and the driver followed. He did not exit the truck after I had exited my car. He never came to check and see if I was okay as he clearly hit me! I called Joel and told him what had happened. I confirmed what I needed to do because of this accident. Still the driver did not get out to check on me. I finally went over to his truck and he got out. He was a young man who was an employee of a lawn service company. He was on the phone with the owner of the business. He was letting him know what had happened. I could tell he was a bit freaked out. I felt for him because I thought about my children being in his shoes. To make a long story short, it took a lot of persistence to get the owner to share his insurance information, but he finally relinquished. He was adamant about not wanting to have to involve insurance because of the guaranteed rise in his premium. Joel had come to where I was to help make sure I was okay. We both affirmed that we needed the insurance information, and that is how we wanted to progress with this accident. In talking to our insurance adjuster today, she reminded me that it is always best to follow the rules and that we should be on the side of truth. My initial thought was that the business owner wanted for us to relinquish and just go with him paying for the damage without going through their insurance. We resolved to go through the proper path. That is why we pay our insurance premiums. I hope that his insurance is adequate to cover the damage that his employee caused to my vehicle.

So my next outing yesterday was to go for my yearly mammogram. As that is already not an appointment (ladies, you know what I mean!) I look forward to, I had a slight concern and it was confirmed that there was a reason for some discomfort. Fortunately, it is not cancer. Unfortunately, it is something that needs to be watched and I have to repeat the fun again in six months.

Late in the day we got a phone call from Christopher because he had had a flat tire on back roads between Bastrop and Lockhart. As a parent, of course, we were concerned. Joel was able to help him procure a tow truck and had his car towed to Discount Tire so that it could be taken care of today. Gratefully, the tow truck driver offered to drive him to his new salon where he could spend the night. Between all three of us, we felt like it had been one long, crazy day for sure. I contemplated how many times one thing after another seems to happen to you or your family and it makes you just want to throw up your hands and surrender. Fortunately, what has been quite present in my life more and more is that in the midst of the struggles, I should still thank God because these moments are opportunities for me to remember that I must fully rely on Him. The lesson is that I should not only be thankful when I see my good blessings, but the tough blessings, too. So I continue to resolve that I am one blessed child of God even at my weakest points when I could easily give in to anger, frustration, stress, etc.

A few days ago at work, I had a wonderful reminder about the revolution to remain strong as I had a customer talk about her first husband passing away in a tragic car accident and how she has remarried years later a man whom she has known for 71 years. They went to high school together. His health is not great at this point. We both agreed that in all the struggles, God gives us the chance to show our faith and trust in Him. We have to resolve to keep moving forward no matter what. What a blessing our conversation was. So as I close out this post, I would like to offer you a reminder that no matter what your faith is, take the opportunity to not let the tough times get you down or cause you to give up. Pray for strength and understanding. I hope that your days are filled with joy, and if you have tough days like the one I had yesterday, that you look forward to the reset of a new day.

One more note: I pray that peace (some kind of coexistence) can be restored in Israel and Palestine. It is heartbreaking to see and hear the atrocities happening there. I hope they can resolve their conflict promptly.
